For anyone who is interested in Linux and what Lindows has done can try it out. The full details of how to get a free copy of Lindows via FTP are posted in the Lockergnome Linux forums For anyone in Belgium or Sweden the site is not www.lindows.com but www.lin---s.com. Isn't that great!
Skip at 8:59 AM An interesting article at Slate about the 'Creatures From the Sandwich Shop'. The details behind the singing rodents in the Quiznos ad point you to RatherGood.com. This is obviously a strange and wonderful find. There are many weird and delightful creations there that will keep you amused for a long time. Skip at 9:02 AM For some Friday fun check out Buzzwhack - the Buzzword Compliant Dictionary. On the site there is this: WARNING: If you can use more than three buzzwords in a single sentence while keeping a straight face, this site is not for you Skip at 6:49 AM Last week, I mentioned Firefox and suggested people should take a good look. I don't have the time nor inclination to detail why but the people at Flexbeta have done it for you and me by listing 13 Reasons to use Firefox over IE. It is a very good overview and worth looking at. Skip at 5:31 AM Everyone, I know, loves the wonderful things Google does to its banner on special days. Did you see all those hearts on Valentines Day? Well, if you want to see some that will never make it, and laugh your socks off, check out Fark.com forums for some ficticious holidays that Google will not be celebrating. Skip at 5:24 AM Valentines Day is over. Hope everyone had a great time. In Toronto it was too cold to do anything other then snuggle. A great way to celebrate the day and keep warm. A colder climate does have some advantages. Skip at 7:40 AM Conan has been putting Toronto on the map this week. Not, of course, without controversy. If you hadn't heard some of the details are here at TV Barn. I really like the picture of Conan in his mountie suit there. Of course much controversy deals with the tax money used to bring his show here. Last night he upset many with the jokes about Quebec. Most of the pols today are trying to distance themselves from the issue. Our mayor is taking the day off! Skip at 8:02 AM Mozilla.org is introducing Firefox, a new Web browser for Windows, Mac and Linux that offers better performance and a host of features not available in Internet Explorer. Firefox was formerly known as "Firebird" before some controversy forced a change. Firefox is a smaller, lighter version of the Mozilla Web browser. Try it! Skip at 5:10 AM I use w.bloggar for all my posting. If you haven't tried it, you're in for pleasant surprise. It makes posting easy and quick. Yesterday I couldn't post to my Blogger site and found the details at w.blogger's site. Apparently blogger.com is having some DNS issues and a quick fix to the CMS.ini file for w.blogger fixed the problem. That is one of the great things about using w.bloggar, their support. Skip at 5:24 AM It's the Monday morning blues time. I didn't even come close to Friday night's $32.5 million Super 7 lottery draw. They forgot to put my numbers in. When I got in to work, I learned that one of the groups had a winning ticket. Turns out that they have five numbers of the seven. That got them the grand sum of $148. What a rip off. I know 5 is far from 7 but $148 is even farther from $32.5 million. It's hard to believe they couldn't divvy up the prize money better. Skip at 10:54 AM I added a link, on the left hand side, to Bloglines a new way to view RSS feeds. Unlike most others where you have to download a desktop client, with Bloglines you can use your browser, and any other computers browser to view the RSS feeds you have subscribed to. For now, this is a free service. Check out the home page and overview available there. Skip at 6:31 AM Guess, who according to BrandChannel is the number one global brand name. No surprise, it's GOOGLE. Check it out. The top ten global brands are discuses and a breakdown by region (Europe, Asia, etc.) is given. You can brush up on what it takes to get world famous. Skip at 5:29 AM For the second time in a month, someone clicked on a pop-up, or installed something, and changed the home page and default search in the browser. The last time I know what happened because Ad-Aware was able to pinpoint the items and I recognized a game that was downloaded. The one today does not seem to make any connection to anything I could find. Ad-aware recognized it so I guess it is a known one but I'm not sure how it arrived. I'm really annoyed at the browser hijack attempts. I'm going to have to turn up my IE settings and maybe install a pop-up stopper. Skip at 6:15 AM I was given a DVD from England. It was a freebie, given out as a promo from one of the major daily papers. When I tried to play it, I was presented with a message that the region was incorrect. A quick look on the internet and I was presented with the instructions on how to make my DVD player region free. Good instructions, since 25 seconds later I was playing the disc. Now I am wondering is the ethical? I don't see why not. It is my DVD and the disc was given to me by someone who obtained it legally and had no use for it. Still, I wonder. Skip at 11:08 AM |
