Just a quick one for Friday. Check out the Flickr Tag Browser. You can enter in a topic and the brewer will search through the tags people have entered on their public photos and bring back a circle of matches. This is experimental and I don't know how long it will be available.
Skip at 7:59 AM Just a quick note on another resource here at Freebyte's Files and Disk Utilities. As the name implies there are a lot of links here to various programs and utilities that may be of use in disk management. Skip at 4:51 AM Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. For this week: Singer Brad Roberts writes songs that are different than anybody else's. This is one of many memorable songs from their 1993 smash hit album. It was their second album and none that followed have reached such heights. The Crash Test Dummies have an truly original sound. Their unique instrumentation, plus a bass singer as a lead vocalist makes for a very different Canadian group. Skip at 5:17 AM For some Friday FUN, check out: What's happening to my genitals!! Then check out an interesting idea, a twist on NetFlix is Peerflix. It is a service where if you have ever traded a movie with a friend you already know the concept, but the pool of friends at Peerflix is much larger. Peerflix Inc., an online peer-to-peer DVD trading service, today officially opened for business, ending a year-long beta test. This might seem odd given the Supreme Court's recent decision to hold peer-to-peer file-sharing companies liable for users' copyright crimes. But what Peerflix does is legal, for the time being at least: It enables the swapping of plastic discs rather than electronic files. Skip at 7:09 AM Opera, previously shareware, has gone to freeware. Nice move! From their announcement: "Opera has removed the banners, found within the browser, and the licensing fee. Opera's growth, due to tremendous worldwide customer support, has made today's milestone an achievable goal."I guess this is why they gave out those free registration codes a few weeks ago! Skip at 5:26 AM No one reads end user license agreements (EULAs). Now there is help to analyze those complex, tedious, mystifying, verbose EULAs. Javacool Software has released EULAlyzer 1.0, a free tool which looks for "potentially interesting words and phrases" such as pop-up, unique identifiers, personally identifiable information. EULAlyzer 1.0 works in seconds and provides the user with needed details that could otherwise be overlooked. Skip at 7:35 AM Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. For this week: The SATTALITES are Toronto's reggae septet. A Canadian group, you probably never heard of, but they have been around for a long time and this song from the 2003 release of the album "Reggaefication" is one my favorites. They can be found all around Toronto, if you look, including TVO's Studio 2, where I first saw them. They are worth a listen. It's Talk like a Priate Day ![]() Skip at 7:00 AM A little Friday fun. I've mentioned this several times before but it still is one of the best times on the internet. With Homestar and Strongbad giving everyone a great time. Check Strongbad's emails outand go to Homestarrunner for some entertaining and humorous cartoons. Remember, not for the kids, but nothing bad. Skip at 7:53 AM Talk Like a Pirate Day, Sept 19 The holiest of Pastafarian holidays is surely Talk Like a Pirate Day, coming on Sept 19, which looms ahead like the scurvy wreckage of a fat clipper, yar, so it does. Skip at 7:10 AM Check out Tech Shows for a list of the best free downloadable tech/gaming shows currently available on the Internet. And... if you use Gmail, look for the "New Features" tag and check out the new Accounts section where you can set up Gmail to send mail from your other email addresses. Skip at 6:46 AM Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. For this week: I've always had a slight crush on Jann. Not a raving beauty, she nevertheless seduced me with her voice and wondeful lyrics. I wanted to post "Waiting in Canada" for you. With the great bit, "And buy a ticket for a plane and come and see me baby. Or drive your car all night by just starlight, To Canada". I just love the vision of a star crossed lover coming to be with me, waiting in Canada. Computer problems, forced me to post this one instead. Still a favorite, from her newest album, this touches anyone who has ever wanted to flee, and start over. Who hasn't wanted to do that? Skip at 7:05 AM For a Friday, weekend, exercise check out the list of books available today. This index includes more than 20,000 online English books in various formats. All free for personal, noncommercial use.....( yes, free).....GO THERE! Skip at 4:55 AM FYI - I stumbled upon another free "business class" DNS hosting at FreeDNS.org. There has been a lot of buzz about this one recently. Skip at 8:35 AM Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Since yesterday was Labor Day I'm posting this on a Tuesday. I'll try and leave it up for seven days, even if I go back to Monday next week. Pleae don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. My new one for this week: Another Canadian artist. I'm not a great HIP-HOP fan but this one from the 2004 Joyful Rebellion album made me listen to K-OS and I'm glad I did. I like the vision of walking down Yonge street on a Friday with crabs in the bucket. Not something I normally see or do. How about you? Skip at 5:09 AM Some Friday FUN again. Nothing serious, since the news of the last few days have taken care of that. First try Curious Too? Cause everyone's looking for answers. Check out some of the polls and answers for a good chuckle or two. Then go spend $15 at DV Graphics to get your very own icon. You can send in a photo of yourself and become a caricature. The work displayed is very high quality and I just might be tempted. FYI - CBC Radio One's Andy Barrie is taking his crew to CIUT 89.5 FM starting on Monday September 5th - 6 to 8 am for a show called Toronto Unlocked. Traffic from Jim Curran, sports from Kevin Sylvester and arts and entertainment from Matt Galloway - it's the real thing. Listen live or via the internet at CUIT on-line As a PS: Don't expect a post on a holiday Monday. The next MP3 might show up on Tuesday if you are lucky! Skip at 7:53 AM |
