Steve Gibson has created 'Perfect Passwords', an ultra high security, password generator for anyone who is paranoid. Every time the page is displayed, our server generates a unique set of custom, high quality, cryptographic-strength password strings which are safe for you to use. Steve has been involved with security issues for a long time and if you go to his home page you will find lots of other goodies too.

Weekly MP3 share Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. For this week:

Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet
"Having An Average Weekend"

The transition of Toronto's Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet from rehearsing to performing live happened less than six months after the band formed in 1984: they were sharing rehearsal space with another band who promised them two month's free rent if they opened for them. They obliged and their course was set. In 1990 Shadowy Men were hired to write and record the theme song for the Kids In The Hall television show. Reid Diamond and Brian Connelly had grown up in Calgary with Kids member Bruce McCullough, and when they had all moved to Toronto and gone in their own directions, Shadowy Men started opening for the Kids in clubs and theatres. When the Kids got signed to do their television show, it seemed only natural that the Shadowy Men supply the theme music - and eventually they supplied all the incidental music for the program. The theme song, "Having An Average Weekend", won them a CASBY nomination in 1990, five years after it was written and recorded. If you were a fan, you will enjoy this bit of nostalgia.

TinyURL is a great resource but some people used it for mischief. Until now you only had services like like this to find out the real destination. Now TinyURL Preview is available. If you don't want to be instantly redirected to a TinyURL and instead want to see where it's going before going you can with the preview feature. I might still use the old service since the preview requires cookies to be set. But now you have a choice.

Wide Mouth Mason "Why?"

Here is Saskatoon's blues-rock trio with their great song "Why". AND, WHY NOT? I had the pleasure of seeing them at a live lunchtime concert, at 1st Canadian Place, last year. They gave a great show. I'm sure that any paid concerts they give must be just fantastic. This is from the 1999 album "Where I Started" and re-issued this year in their "Essentials" greatest hits album.

FolderShare, a service that used to cost $50/year, is now free, thanks to Microsoft which has recently bought the company. FolderShare allows you to create a private peer-to-peer network that will help you to synchronize files across multiple devices and access or share files with colleagues and friends.
Check it out!

Jann Arden "Waiting in Canada"

A few weeks back I wanted to post "Waiting in Canada" for you. Circumstances contrived to foil my intentions back then and I had to post anther Jann Arden song. It was a good one, but I just had to redress the issue this week. With the great bit, "And buy a ticket for a plane and come and see me baby. Or drive your car all night by just starlight, To CANADA". I just love the vision of a star crossed lover coming to be with me, waiting in Canada. Enjoy.

A Friday funny, if it wasn't true! This was found at EFF.ORG. They has listed there what you can legally do after buying a normal CD. Now compare that baseline with the world according to the Sony-BMG End User license Agreement (EULA), which applies to any digital copies you make of the music on the CD: 1) If your house gets burgled, you have to delete all your music from your laptop when you get home. That's because the EULA says that your rights to any copies terminate as soon as you no longer possess the original CD. 2) You can't keep your music on any computers at work. The EULA only gives you the right to put copies on a "personal home computer system owned by you." 3) If you move out of the country, you have to delete all your music. The EULA specifically forbids "export" outside the country where you reside. 4) You must install any and all updates, or else lose the music on your computer. The EULA immediately terminates if you fail to install any update. No more holding out on those hobble-ware downgrades masquerading as updates. 5) Sony-BMG can install and use backdoors in the copy protection software or media player to "enforce their rights" against you, at any time, without notice. And Sony-BMG disclaims any liability if this "self help" crashes your computer, exposes you to security risks, or any other harm. 6) The EULA says Sony-BMG will never be liable to you for more than $5.00. That's right, no matter what happens, you can't even get back what you paid for the CD. 7) If you file for bankruptcy, you have to delete all the music on your computer. Seriously. 8) You have no right to transfer the music on your computer, even along with the original CD. 9) Forget about using the music as a soundtrack for your latest family photo slideshow, or mash-ups, or sampling. The EULA forbids changing, altering, or make derivative works from the music on your computer.

Bare Naked Ladies "If I had a Million Dollars"

From the Greatest Hits 1991-2001 album a great track by the Bare Naked Ladies. I've always enjoyed this one, and have visions of them being pelted with Kraft Dinner boxes when singing it on stage. It's fun to dream of the million and just tap my toes to the tune. These guys have come a long way from being banned from appearing at Toronto City Hall! Enjoy.
