A Friday fun app. Try Typetester, an online application for comparison of fonts for the screen. Its’ primary role is to make the web designer’s life easier. Typetester is updated as new fonts are bundled into operating systems. The list of the common fonts is kept up to date.

I had a great Christmas. Hope you did too. Seems everyone in the U.S. did ok. U.S. consumers spent 8.7 percent more during the just ended holiday shopping period than in the comparable period a year ago, according to a report from an affiliate of MasterCard Inc., the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition on Monday. And Amazon.com reports over 108 million orders, shattering expectations and previous Christmas seasons.

If I asked you to open up Windows Media Player, how would you do it? You probably would tell me that you take your mouse, click on the start button, the go to All Programs, then go to Accessories, then click on Windows Media Player. Easy enough. But what if I added that you could not use your mouse at all, only your keyboard? Would you be able to? You would if you check out Essential Keyboard Shortcuts. A good page to bookmark.

You Are Rudolph
Sweet and shy, you tend to be happiest when you're making someone else happy.
Why You're Naughty: You sometimes stick that nose where it doesn't belong
Why You're Nice: Christmas would be a sad affair without you!

An interesting way to access restricted web sites using Google language tools service as a proxy is here. If you are behind a school or work proxy that forbids access to some sites try this google hack.

Weekly MP3 share Another share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. For this week:

Barenaked Ladies "Jingle Bells"

Last week I said I'll find something to fit the season. So here it is! What's better then getting "Barenaked for the Holidays"? If you have any ideas send me an email. I need some holiday laughs. This one is from the album released in 2004 by the Ladies. It is exactly what you might expect from this entertaining group. Happy holidays, and New Year. Since next week is Boxing day and then New Year's day don't expect any music posts. I will resume in the new year but you will have to check in around the 9th to see. Of course I will probably be posting other things so check back before then, if you love me, for more then shared music.

Not really Friday fun, but necessary if you want to continue having Friday fun, is keeping your computer free of problems. I have a one-two punch that I can recommend to anyone. The first is Spybot Search and Destroy and the second is Ad Aware. These are both free programs that work. You can donate money to Spybot and buy a 'Pro' version of Ad Aware, but the free versions for home use are top notch. Many commercial programs can't do a better job. Spyware and nasty bots won't get a foothold. If you install these and run regularly you will be able to continue having fun.

Just a quick update on the news. In case you've been out skiing or under the covers with your sweetie, you might not know Yahoo's been busy while you were away, buying the "social bookmarking service" del.icio.us and launching the Yahoo! Widgets Engine, product of its earlier purchase of Konfabulator.

An interesting tidbit from TechDirt.com....
Overpeer was one of the first firms to come around that would flood file sharing networks with bogus files to try to trip up downloaders. For all their efforts, they got bought out by Loudeye nearly two years ago. However, it turns out that there isn't really that much money to be made in pissing off lots of people, and so Loudeye has shut down the unit, saying it's losing money. Who knew that annoying as many people as possible wasn't a good business model?

Tragically Hip "Ahead By A Century"

I can't believe that I've been posting songs for a couple of months now and haven't included any from THE HIP! I've just pulled "Ahead By a Century" since it was nearly first in the directory. It also happens to be one I really like. As if anything by THE HIP wouldn't be something I like. Hopefully you do too. Next week I'll find something to fit the season.

Just a quick post. Found another spot to grab 1G of storage. eSnips is set up to let you save things from the web or your computer. Up can upload as normal or install their toolbar for quick access. It is set up for you to share these things with your friends and family, but it can just be another 1G, if that's all you want.

Sarah McLachlan "Ice Cream"

From last years "Afterglow Live" release is Sarah's better then ice cream song. I quite like Sarah but I can only take a small dose at a time.

Always on the lookout for interesting fonts, I ran across Abstract Fonts. A few of the many types there are:
| Bloody | Brushed | Calligraphy | Cartoon | Celtic | Circus | Classic | Decorative | Dingbats | Display Caps | Distorted | Esoteric | Famous | Fontbats | Foreign | Futuristic | Graffiti | Greek | Grunge | Handwriting | Holidays | Horror | Industrial | Initial Caps | Italic | LCD | Medieval | Military | Minimalist | Monospaced | Normal | Old English | Old West | Oriental | Outline | Pixel/Bitmap | Ransom | Russian | Script | Stencil | Typewriter | Weird |
I really like some of the ones in the Weird catagory but I'm sure you will find your own favorites too!
