In-Flight Safety, from Halifax, have just released their second album on Dead Daisy records. It is called "The Coast is Clear" and the band is being compared to Cold Play. Canada's version of Cold Play!! It that good or bad? In any case the hype is growing. I haven't heard anything from the new album yet. This is from their first album "Vacation Land". Skip at 7:22 AM This was on NEWS.COM yesterday: Google launched on Thursday a service that lets people create their own Web pages hosted by the Internet giant. Google Page Creator, which is in beta, has sample layouts and lets people type in content, upload images and publish their pages, without knowing HTML. People can create multiple linked pages and are allowed 100MB of storage on the service. The free service requires a Gmail account and supports either Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0, or higher. With Page Creator, the company has drawn a distinction between Web sites and Web pages, saying that a page is a "single document with its own Web address," whereas a site is a "collection of pages with a common subdomain," or the "xxxxxxx.com" portion of the URL. "During this initial testing period," Google said, people can create only pages, not sites. Google already owns Blogger, a company that enables people to create blogs. The company also recently launched a service offering hosted e-mail accounts with an individual's chosen domain, instead of Gmail. Google Page Creator Skip at 7:29 AM Here is a program that can save all data on a partition to a file (such as you could save this file on a CD for example). Then if something goes wrong, you can completely restore the partition from the backup file. You no longer have to reinstall every piece of software from scratch. All you have to do is restore the partition from the backup file and then update any software that was modified since the backup was created. Partition Saving is able to compress data (using the gzip compression algorithm) and split it up into several files (e.g. if you need to save a 2 Gb partition onto a CD, this can be done by compressing it and, if necessary, splitting it up into 650 Mb files). Most partition types are supported. In the case of FAT (12, 16 and 32), ext2/3 and NTFS partitions, you can choose between saving all sectors or in-use sectors only. And it's free! Check it out in English here! Skip at 6:39 AM Dirty Vegas "Days Go By" So many songs have made it into commercials. Like this one from Dirty Vegas that was featured on a car commercial for a long time. If you watch any TV, you are sure to remember this tune. Do you rememeber which car was being advertised? Probably not! Skip at 7:42 AM VIRTUAL CD-ROM CONTROL PANEL.......... Microsoft has an unsupported Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP. It contains no setup (only instructions) and the interface is quite basic. But the software does its job and its free. Using a virtual CD-ROM drive you can mount ISO images without burning them. Not the ususal Friday fun, but it might keep you occupied for the weekend. Get the vitrual CD-ROM from HERE. Skip at 6:37 AM Fred Langa offers a step-by-step and illustrated guide on how to boot XP from an ordinary USB drive. This Information Week article tells how it can be done! Check it out. Skip at 6:55 AM Happy Valentines Day!![]() Skip at 6:44 AM Another song with Brad Roberts from the 1993 Crash Test Dummies album. As I said before, the Crash Test Dummies have a truly original sound. I like this one a lot. I hope you do too. Skip at 7:10 AM What kind of muppet would you be?. I wound up as:
Skip at 10:32 AM Here’s a great how-to from over at eHow.com “How to Fix a Stuck Pixel on an LCD Monitor”. Haven’t had occasion to try it (and hope I never do) so I can’t vouch if it works or not. Skip at 6:45 AM Just in case you hadn't noticed, Google has added a chat feature to Gmail. It brings Google Talk, minus voice calls, into your webmail client. Gmail now also logs your IMs, whether they originate in Gmail or Google Talk. Skip at 10:25 AM Our Lady Peace "Superman's Dead" From the group's "Clumsy" album is the lead track "Superman's Dead". This album was chosen by the Amazon.ca editors as one of the 50 Canadian Essentials in Music. I've always liked it and would have probably voted it to the list as well (if they every asked me!). Our Lady Peace - a classic. Skip at 7:30 AM Enter a book you like at this site and it will be analyzed, using a database of other readers favorite books, to create suggestions of what you should read next. This is a great idea for readers who have limited time (because of too much computer use?) to browse through all the books at the big box stores. This lets you get an idea of what other readers who like the type of book you entered also liked. Hope this catches on and grows. Skip at 6:55 AM There are a lot of things out at Microsoft's research site. Scalable Fabric is a task management system for the Windows desktop. A central focus area, defined by you, contains windows that behave in the traditional way. When you drag a window into the periphery, it becomes smaller and continues to get smaller the closer you get to the edge of the screen. This makes it possible to keep windows open all the time, and change "minimize" to mean "return to the periphery". Groups of windows can easily be created to represent different user tasks. Switching between groups is done simply by clicking on the task marker flag. I've been using this for just a few days but I love the way it works. It fits my way of using the desktop just right. Maybe you will find that it works for you too. Skip at 7:00 AM IBM is giving away DB2 Universal Database Express Edition for FREE. Both Windows and Linux versions. DB2 Express-C is provided with an unwarranted license and is available as a free download here. Skip at 7:18 AM |
