Weekly MP3 shareAnother share of one of my MP3s. I set up a new one once a week and give you seven days to check it out. After that it will be gone and replaced by a new selection. Please don't link to this. Just click on the link and save it. Until I can make some money and buy some, if you get the message BANDWIDTH exceeded, just try again tomorrow. For this week:

Mp3 ShareBrett Dennen
"Ain't No Reason"

or you can try here too!

Brett Dennen will be in Canada when I post this. He's out in Calgary and then on BC. This Oakdale California native released his new album earlier this year. It is called "More, So Much More". From that album I'm sharing "Ain't No Reason", to give you a good taste of the type of music you will find on the rest of the album. This folk/pop singer/songwriter deserves more exposure. If you want to know a bit more check out Brett at Wikipedai. Enjoy.

Earlier this month, ComputerWorld put out a helpful article listing 15 great pieces of security software -- firewalls, spyware busters, antivirus software, rootkit killers, and general Internet security tools -- all designed to protect you against any dangers that come your way. The great thing about this list is that they're all free, they're powerful and they're easy to use. So what are you waiting for? Read the article and start downloading.

"Turn the Lights Out"

or you can try here too!

The Ponys are a Chicago group that have releseed a couple of albums. Earlier this year (around March I think) they released the latest. It is called "Turn the Lights Out" and here to share with you this week is the title song. They didn't get the amount of play that the album deserved. You might not have had much exposure. If you head over to Matador Records you can hear a couple of other songs from this album. Enjoy.

Are you looking for an open source alternative to all the commercial software on your computer? Wondering how you’re going to switch to Linux when all your boxed applications run on Windows? Float over to www.osalt.com, a directory of open source applications that can provide alternatives to commercial apps.

There are featured applications on the front page, but mostly the listings are divided into categories including business, databases, Internet, graphics, etc. The listings. The listings start with popular commercial software — apps listed in the Business category include Adobe Acrobat, Crystal Reports, and of course thousands of Microsoft products. There’s is a listing of open source software underneath that. The commercial apps have red icons, the open source have green.

Pick a commercial app and you’ll get an overview of the product, along with a note of the platforms on which it runs. (Note: several platforms are listed, the ones not supported are crossed out. This is a little confusing at first.) Then you’ll get alternatives to the commercial product. For some listings there are multiple alternatives — Crystal Reports actually had four listed alternatives. Alternative listings have Web sites available as well as platform listings. There is a rating system installed, but most of the software doesn’t have ratings yet. Still worth a look. Check it out.

"Signal Fire"

or you can try here too!

I'm going to share a 2007 CD single from the Scottish band, Snow Patrol. They just cancelled their August 7th scheduled appearance at the Toronto Molson Amphitheater. I don't know why but there were ads in the paper offering refunds. As a consolation to the fans this is the theme tune to the motion picture Spiderman 3 called "Signal Fire". Enjoy.

PLASMA PONG is a variation of PONG that utilizes real-time fluid dynamics to drive the game environment. Players have several new abilities that add fun twists to the classic game. In the game you can inject plasma fluid into the environment, create a vacuum from your paddle, and blast shockwaves into the playing area. All these abilities have fluid-based kinetic effects on the ball, making Plasma Pong a fast-paced, exciting, and free game.

"Thirsty"

or you can try here too!

From their Myspace Page, is the following: "The National are a band of New Yorkers transplanted from Cincinnati, Ohio: Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Bryan Devendorf, and Scott Devendorf."
They have made a good splash with the newest album, released in May, called "Boxer". Check Myspace out for some details on "Boxer". It is very good and a great addition to any collection. I thought that I would share a track from their 2003 album called "Songs for Dirty Lovers" called "Thirsty", so you could get a taste of the group. Check out both albums and enjoy!

Check out Imagination Cubed for some Friday fun. This is a page from GE that allows you to draw, stamp, colour, and use your imagination all in a browser window. You can also invite your frinds to join in the drawing. You can re-play the creation of your picture or save it to a file. The idea is to have a web app that allows collaboration. Check it out and draw!

"Stuck In The 90's"

or you can try here too!

For the tail end of the Canada Day Weekend here's Moxy Fruvis. A real gem of a Canadian group that was really big in the mid-nineties. Here to celebrate them is "Stuck In the 90s". I don't think you can buy this, or any of their records any more. Anyone living in Toronto will remember the group and this song with a good bit of nostalgia. Enjoy.

Happy Canada Day!

canada 140 years ago, on March 29, 1867, Queen Victoria signed the British North America Act. This country came into effect on July 1 of that year, creating "one dominion under the name of Canada".
